Giving Thanks
Someone recently shared a joke with me. As a person running a non-profit dedicate to saving animals, they thought I'd get a kick out of it. Here is is:
Closing out 2023 and Charging into 2024!
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’d like to thank all of you for your past support of SAGE Compassion for Animals (SAGEC4A). As you know, we provide grants to allow companion animals in acute medical crises to get the veterinary care they need when their pet parents do not have sufficient financial means. This small act of generosity and kindness not only saves a life, but keeps families from suffering a loss and alleviates stress for veterinarians and their staff.
What if our pets had thumbs??
NPR recently reported that by 2030, 1 in 6 people will be 60 or over. Believe it or not, March 3rd is “What if Pets Had Thumbs Day” according to Pet Sitters International. Which led me down this rabbit hole….picture this: your cat, Mr. Whiskers, or your dog, Fido, sporting a pair of opposable thumbs. What could possibly go wrong?
Introducing Animal Grant Assistance for Seniors
NPR recently reported that by 2030, 1 in 6 people will be 60 or over. Think about that for a minute...it's kind of amazing. The diverse needs of this segment of our population will dominate world change.
Sage Compassion for Animals' Grant Assistance Program for Seniors will specifically allocate funding for folks 65 or older with companion animals in need of urgent medical care, and who meet our qualifications. Our qualifiers are a combination of financial (for the pet parent) and veterinary (for the pet) requirements.
Howl-o-ween is almost here!
Howl-oween is almost here!
When you scroll through Instagram or TikTok, if your feed is anything like mine, this time of year it seems like all I see are pumpkin spice recipes and dogs and cats dressed in costume! While I love both of these, the costumes are what really make me laugh. And let’s face it, we could all use a few extra laughs these days!
Here are just a few pet friendly parades, places, and events in the Bay Area that will guarantee full belly laughs because ALL of them allow pets in costume!!
Calling all Cat Ladies!
Standing up for ALL Cat Ladies!
Cat ladies are everywhere in pop culture and, these days, even in politics. From Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange to Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, this trope has been featured in film and television for a long time. But while it might seem to be a 20th-century contemporary media phenomena, its roots go back to the 13th century - and a fear of female power.
Summertime Reading (and Listening!)
Lots going on in the pet world these days - and pets are in the news more than ever. Most pet guardians know that when you bond with a pet, it is scientifically proven to make you healthier and happier. Pets enrich our lives, but they also cost money and cause us concern. While I am not an expert on behaviorism, veterinary practices, or the human-animal bond, I have had pets for almost my whole life - have loved them, and lost them - and have felt all the emotions in between.
Summertime is the Purr-fect time for community building
With kids home from school, vacation plans underway, and sunshine and warm weather in abundance, summer can be a great time to foster community by attending some of the amazing pet-friendly events across the bay area. We know our pets are adorable - but they are amazing community builders too!
Our pets can lead to building connections and communities, bringing people together in diverse and magical ways. They have an incredible superpower to break barriers and are great conversation starters!
